mount-lhotse-8516m-13

Lhotse (8516m), is the fourth highest mountain in the world. It is located 3km south of Mount Everest, their summits are connected by the South Col, a vertical ridge, that never drops below 8000m. An impressive ring of 3 peaks, Lhotse, Lhotse East/middle and Lhotse Shar make up the Lhotse massif. The south face of Lhotse is one of the largest mountain faces of the world. The first attempt to climb Lhotse was in 1955, one of the team members was Erwin Schneider, who began working on a series of high quality maps of the Everest region. The first successful ascent was made in 1956, by the same Swiss team who made the second successful attempt on Mount Everest.
